When was the last time you turned inward and observed every part of your body?
Just like getting an annual physical exam, everyone should take time every once in a while to examine each part of their body. How should you do it? It is actually not difficult. What you need to do is take a deep breath, then focus your attention on a particular part of your body. If you have experience with meditation or diaphragmatic breathing, you can try imagining each breath you inhale reaching the part you are focusing on. The place you focus on can be your hands, your feet, one of your internal organs, a muscle, your spine, your head, your brain, your eyes, your nose, and so on. It can be large or small. Try to stay with each part for at least one minute, and carefully sense whether there is any discomfort or soreness. Do your best to cover every part of the body.
I once read a book on spiritual practice called Meet the Unknown Self. It mentions that emotions and energy can attach themselves to certain parts of the body. When you look inward, you can also sense those places and relax the tension within them. Of course, if you believe in these theories of emotional energy, you can also help each part of your body feel cared for by telling it, "I love you."
The above are some of my own experiences from practicing awareness of the present moment. Today, the world changes very quickly, and many people live in a hurry, losing their sense of their own bodies along the way. Take ten minutes each month to feel your body and notice the changes and discomfort in each part. If you sense ongoing discomfort, perhaps you can go to the hospital for an examination or consult a doctor. I hope this can also help you understand your body better.
